The Dublin NH Gas Engine Meet

Take a step back in time and appreciate the amazing Dublin NH Gas Engine Meet and their mission to preserve America’s agricultural history! These pieces of machinery transformed lives, farms, and agriculture, and helped to pave the way for the many comforts we take for granted today.

This is another event that I had heard about over the years but never quite seemed to make it to. It has been a lot of fun working through this blog site to finally make it to new adventures like this one.

The entire summer was a challenge trying to schedule adventures between rainstorms and this weekend would be more of the same. Sunday was the day we were able to attend and we were glad we did! The Dublin NH Gas Engine Meet is always held the second weekend in September and lasts from Friday through Sunday.

I hope the video and post below capture some of the sights, sounds, and feel of taking that step back in time.

I was fortunate enough to connect with Caleb Niemela, organizer, and non-profit board member, to get an introduction to the video above. He does a great job of summing up the group’s mission to preserve and promote agricultural history.

The Dublin Gas Engine Meet is a non-profit organization that works to promote, restore, and preserve America’s agricultural history. All volunteers contribute their time and energy and no one is paid. It doesn’t take long to appreciate the passion and pride they all have in the meet and the machinery they bring to the show.

This year was their 51st year for the event and it looked to be thriving! Friday was a pretty challenging weather day according to Caleb. Saturday was bustling with people, events, and much better weather. Sunday was slightly overcast and the quieter of the three days but also allowed for the interview with Caleb and plenty of pictures.

Antique Gas Engines

Once you have heard the distinct rhythm of one of these antique gas engines, you won’t forget it. They are sometimes called “hit and miss” engines due to the nature of how they fire only when needed. This YouTube video does a great job of explaining how they work.

You can imagine how these engines changed lives by powering everything from sawmills to water pumps, to wash machines!

Antique Tractors

The theme for this year’s event was the John Deere Model D Tractor. You can view a great video that runs through the history of the John Deere Tractor on the Dublin Gas Engine Meet website.

My wife and her family have roots in La Porte, Indiana which made the Rumely OilPull Tractor exciting. I can only imagine the amount of work these vehicles have done over their lifetime! It is fantastic to see these pieces of history preserved and celebrated by so many at this meet.

Food and Rides

I wish we had attended Saturday to capture the rides and food vendors on a busy day. There is a cute small-scale train that offers fun rides and there is no shortage of food options for hungry patrons.

The entry fee is very reasonable and helps to keep the infrastructure and event operating each year. We give The Dublin Gas Engine Meet two thumbs up and recommend it for your NH Bucket list!
